EP Track ‘Indigo’ Is Up Now

Our next EP track ‘Indigo’ is now available to listen to exclusively on Myspace for one week only. Thank you to everyone who has listened to and commented on ‘Never Knew That You Wanted To’.

Next week on Monday 8th November will see the release of ‘The Rider’ as a free download, we will let you know more details later this week about how you can get your hands on it. We will also be previewing the final EP track on the same day. Also this week we will also be unveiling the EP artwork and full track listing- exciting stuff so keep checking back for that.

Finally I would like thank the huge number of you that turned up at Proud Galleries on Friday to support us and welcome our new member Richard. We all had a great time and it was really awesome to play some tunes that we haven’t played in a while. Our next gig is at The Dublin Castle in Camden on Thursday 11th of November. We are on at 8pm, so get down early!

‘Shoot You Down’ Up Tomorrow

So a week has passed and it is now time to say your goodbyes to ‘The Rider’, but don’t worry you’ll be able to hear it again at the beginning of November when we are planning to give it away as a free download. Thank you to everyone who has listened to it and shared it with their friends, we are really grateful and have received some really good feedback.

Pushing on, we can now reveal that the next EP track to go up on the Myspace is ‘Shoot You Down’. Being a personal favourite of ours, we are very pleased to have this on the EP, and it is particularly enjoyable to play live. We hope you all get a chance to listen to it and enjoy it as much as you have ‘The Rider’. Once again, it would be wonderful if you could all spread the word- introducing just one person can make a massive difference!

Finally, I would just like to give a little plug to our gig on the 29th of October at Proud Gallaries in Camden, a really great venue! This is going to be our first gig with Richard in the band. We have been rehearsing a lot with Richard recently and the tunes are really starting to sound immense so we hope you will be able to come down and show your support for the start of this new era. If that doesn’t convince you we are all having a party afterwards to celebrate!

New Line Up

It is with great pleasure that we introduce a new member of Deadwax to you all. His name is Richard and he will be playing guitar with us. Richard fills the void that has remained empty since David’s departure in February. We all owe a lot to Dave for helping getting Deadwax to where we are today and we all wish him the best for the future. Dave has recently had the pleasure to play with Adam Ant, so keep an eye on that!

We certainly feel that we have developed a lot as a three-piece but now we feel we can add another dimension to our music with an additional member and I can tell you that it is sounding great, and I am so excited for you guys to hear us. Our next gig has now been confirmed as a headline slot at Proud Gallaries in Camden on the 29th of October. It will be your first chance to hear us as a four-piece again and is promising to be a top night. It would be lovely to see as many of your lovely faces as possible. Please contact us on facebook to get onto the cheap/guestlist.

We would also like to say a massive thank you to everyone who came to The Half Moon last night, you really made it a special night. We also made a lot of new friends who we hope to see a lot more of at our shows.

Finally we would also like to remind you all that the first of our EP tracks ‘The Rider’ will be available to listen to on Myspace for one week only. This is part of our promotion for our debut EP which is due for release on December 6th, and gives you the chance to hear all the tracks before the EP is released, so keep checking back.

Last few weeks…

You may of all noticed that all has been quiet in the last couple of weeks on the Deadwax front, this has been for a number of reasons. First and foremost we have all been very busy in the studio mixing our debut EP, which is still without a name. Finally we have the mix going in the right direction, but there is still a fair amount to do. It feels as if this has taken forever, but hopefully it will all be worth it.

Secondly, James our bass player has been rather unwell recently, which has led to a few cancellations of shows. For those who turned up to expecting to see us at The Enterprise and The Monarch in Camden as well as Walkabout in Wimbledon we are very sorry but it really was taken out of our hands and we had to withdraw. James is however a lot better now and so our next show will be at Hamswell Festival in Bath. This is a really great independent festival with a great vibe and lots of activities alongside 3 days of live music. Deadwax will be playing on the Friday (13th August) at 9.30pm. Our good friends and fellow Twickonians Klezma Villanova will also being playing at the Festival, playing on the Saturday. To buy tickets and to view the line up click this link http://www.hamswellfestival.com/

Finally I would like to also say a big thanks to all those who have mailed us suggestions for our debut EP title, however we are still looking for more suggestions so please keep sending them to deadwax@live.co.uk.

Keep checking back for more updates during the run up to the release of our debut EP.

Name our EP

Well we are finally coming close to the completion our debut EP, and I must say that so far it is sounding great. Although there are many tweaks yet to be made, the bulk of the work is pretty much done.

Last weekend Richard spent both saturday and sunday putting vocals to the strong rhythm tracks that had been laid down the week before. As soon as he started singing, the tracks came to life in a way that really demonstrated how far his voice has come recently. There is a real roughness to it that has developed over the last few months, which really adds such a rich dimension to our sound. I really cant wait for you guys to hear what we are hearing in the studio, its going to be mega!!!

So with the EP set to be released shortly, this is where you, the fans, come in.  We have been so taken back by the support you guys have given to us over the past year, whether it be by introducing our music to your friends, talking about it on forums, offering us food and shelter, or just listening to it on your Ipod. We are so grateful. It is because of this that we want our EP to be named by you, the people who it is made for.

You can suggest names by e-mailing them to deadwax@live.co.uk or by posting them on our Facebook page. All names will be considered and the name we think is best will be used as the title of the EP, alongside a thank you in the EP sleeve notes. So get brainstorming! 🙂

In other news, we have an exciting day for you to put in your diaries. This saturday 19th of June we will be doing two gigs in 24 hours. Starting in Twickenham at 2pm, we will be playing the Twickenham Green Festival before heading up to Camden to support label mates I Dream in Colour at The Cavendish Arms. Deadwax are onstage at 9.45pm at one of Camden’s best venues, so come down and party with us!!

A Busy Couple of Weeks

Hey all, its been a while since we last updated you all on what’s been happening in the magical world of Deadwax. So I thought I would take this chance to update you all with a nice little blog about what we’ve been doing.

As you will know, we have been very busy in the studio recording our debut EP, and since our last update, there have been some important changes. We have recently enlisted the help of up-and-coming producer Phil Tyreman to help get the EP to sound the best it can. Phil is a really good producer, and has had lots of ideas which have contributed to the recordings. Phil has really helped get the most out of us during the sessions and we are really excited for you guys to hear what we are hearing.

In terms of EP progress, we have put down all the rhythm tracks, which have a real groovy swagger to them. On top of this we have also completed guitar’s on two of the tracks, the rest which we hope to complete this week. Once the guitar’s are down, all thats left is Richard’s vocals and mixing. Very exciting!

In other news, the photo’s from the Moonlight Mish Mash are finally on Myspace for your viewing pleasure. There will also be videos of the night, which are currently in editing, that will be put up- including live performances, so keep checking back for those.

The next stop for Deadwax is this Friday 28th May at The New Cross Inn, where we play the last ever Cariad Presents. We are on at the very late time of 12am (midnight), so don’t go to sleep, stay up and party with us as the New Cross Inn has a late bar and closes at 5am :-). We will be following this gig up with one at The Shed in Leicester, which for Richard and I, is a homecoming of sorts, having met at Leicester University and playing our first ever gig together at this very venue.

Until next time!!

Our Rocket Ship Studio Diary

Hey all, just thought I would give you a quick  update to inform you all of our progress on our EP and to include a brand new video from the studio for your viewing pleasure.

Due to the fact that my bass is currently in repair, we decided to work on ‘I Never Knew That You Wanted To’ which already had a complete rhythm track- allowing us to work on other areas of the song. We spent most of the day recording additional guitar parts to evolve the song. The new guitar parts have really introduced some strong, interesting  dynamics to the song which really make it groove.

Vocals were the last thing that we did yesterday, and with Richard working his magic in the vocal booth it wasn’t long until we had ‘the take’. All in all it was a very  productive day and it seems like the song has really come together now, with new ideas coming from every direction in what was a very creative day. There are still some key elements to go into the song such as a brass section and some additional vocals, but the majority of it is there- and I can’t stop listening to it!!

The video that we have uploaded is just a sample of some of the things we got up to during our long day at the studio. Hope you enjoy it!

The 100 Club

Determined to pick up from where we left off at Tommy Flynn’s, we were really geared up for last Friday’s gig at the 100 Club in Oxford Street.  Deadwax played alongside Nat Jenkins and Saint Jude on a night which will surely go down as Deadwax’s best gig to date.

Recently our live shows have been getting better and better, however on Friday it really went up a notch! We had decided the day before that we were going to play a fast-paced, hard-hitting gig- and that is certainly what we achieved. We are now taking the rest of April off so we can focus on the production of our EP to try and make it the best we can.

Our next gig will be the Monotwin Records Charity Night at The Half Moon in Putney on May 7th. We are already chomping at the bit to get out and gig again after Friday, so by May we will be like caged animals.  Not one to miss!

Other than that keep checking back for more videos and blogs whilst we complete the EP.

Tommy Flynn’s

A big thank you to all those who came down to see us on Friday night at Tommy Flynn’s.  All of us had a lot of fun, especially Tommy boy, and it was great to finally be let loose back on the live scene.

Playing to a sold out venue, Deadwax ripped through a set of both old and new material in what was a nice warm up for our upcoming show supporting Saint Jude at the 100 Club on April the 9th.  After this gig we will be going into the studio to work intensively on our debut EP and will next be playing on the 7th of May once the EP is completed.  The gig on the 7th of May will be at The Half Moon in Putney as part of Monotwin Records’ takeover of the venue and will prove to be a really good night.  We will let you know more details as soon as possible.

Finally, I would just like to say a big thank you to everyone for your continued support.  We are really chuffed by the amount of positive feedback that we have received on our music and our live shows.  Over the past few months our profile has been growing and growing and that is due to you, the fans.  Please take a moment to sign up to the mailing list and become a fan on facebook and lets get the rock rolling 🙂

Much Love

Live Music, EP Updates & Free Downloads

Hey all, many apologies for not blogging much recently as we have all been very busy bee’s over the last two months.  All I can say really is that we are sounding better than ever and are really eager to get going with the recording of the EP in April.

We have been working very hard working through the songs that will appear on our EP.  So far we have cut the list down to six tracks, four of which will be on the EP.  Although at this moment I can’t announce the shortlisted tracks, I can tell you that the EP is going to sound fantastic, and there will definitely be some fan favourites on it!  Keep checking the Myspace for updates on our EP and sign up to our mailing list to receive the very latest news- or alternatively, get us drunk!

In other news, we will end our two month break from the live scene by playing two gigs in the next three weeks.  First up is Tommy Flynn’s in Camden this Friday 26th March.  You can find out more details of the gig by clicking here (http://www.facebook.com/home.php?ref=home#!/event.php?eid=108011449218136&ref=mf).  This gig will be followed up by supporting Saint Jude at our favourite venue the 100 club on April 9th.  This is going to be a big one and it would be great to see you all down there!!!

Finally, Deadwax are also giving away some free downloads to get you in the mood for the upcoming shows.  The free downloads are just demos, and by no means are the finished product, however it will hopefully give you an idea of the sort of stuff we are working on at the moment.

Simply visit http://www.soundclick.com/deadwax for your free downloads.  We will from time to time be posting other tracks there, so keep your eyes peeled!
